These soils contain lenses of sands and silts with occasional layers of clayey
sands. Silty sands and sandy silts were encountered beneath the surface soil extending
to the maximum depths explored.
No free groundwater was encountered during our field operation. It is possible
however, that groundwater conditions at the site could change at some time in the
future due to variations in rainfall, groundwater withdrawal, construction activities,
or other factors not apparent at the time our test borings were drilled.
The above is a general summary of the soil and groundwater conditions encountered in
the test borings drilled for this investigation. A, more detailed description of the soils
encountered in each boring are noted on the Logs of Borings. All soils have been
classified according to the Unified Soil Classification System which is described on
Plate 11.
LABORATORY TESTING
Laboratory tests were performed on selected samples obtained from the exploratory
borings in order to evaluate the moisture, density, and gradation characteristics of the
soils encountered. The tests performed included Moisture Content and Dry Density
Determinations and a #200 Wash. In addition, a Resistance-Value (R-Value) test was
performed on a sample of the surface soils for use in pavement section design.
The results of the Moisture Content and Dry Density Determinations are noted on the
