Box 5155
San Ramon, California 94583
Attention: Mr. Keith Bullock
RE: Work Plan/Proposal
Unocal Bulk Plant #0950
2835 Navy Drive
Stockton, California
BACKGROUND
On April 22, 1992, Kaprealian Engineering, Inc. (KEI) collected
soil samples following the removal of two underground diesel
storage tanks (with individual capacities of 20, 000 and 10,000
gallons) at the referenced site. Ground water was encountered in
the fuel tank pit at a depth of approximately 10. 5 feet below
grade. Five soil samples (labeled SW1 through SW5) were collected
from the fuel tank pit sidewalls at depths ranging from 9.5 to 10
feet below grade. Sample point locations are shown on the attached
Site Plan. Ms. Pamela Violett of the San Joaquin County Public
Health Services Department was present during tank removal and
subsequent soil sampling. On April 29, 1992 , the tank pit had been
completely excavated to a complete depth of about 11 feet below
grade. A total of approximately 7, 000 gallons of ground water were
pumped from the tank pit. KEI collected one water sample (labeled
W-1) from the tank pit in the presence of Ms. Violett. All
excavated soil was stockpiled on-site and sampled.
All soil and water samples were analyzed by Sequoia Analytical
Laboratory in Concord, California, and were accompanied by properly
executed Chain of Custody documentation. All soil and water
samples were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) as
gasoline by EPA method 5030 in conjunction with modified 8015,
benzene, toluene, xylenes, and ethylbenzene (BTX&E) by EPA method
8020, and TPH as diesel by EPA method 3550 (soil) and 3510 (water)
in conjunction with modified 8015.
Analytical results of the soil samples collected from the fuel tank
pit indicated non-detectable levels of TPH as gasoline and non-
detectable levels of BTX&E, except for 2 . 2 ppm of TPH as gasoline
detected in sample SW2 and 0. 010 ppm of xylenes detected in sample
SW4 . Analytical results of the soil samples collected from the
fuel tank pit also indicated non-detectable levels of TPH as
diesel, except for 120 ppm and 2 .7 ppm of TPH as diesel detected in
2401 Stanwell Drive,Suite 400
Concord,California 94520
Tel 510.602.5100 Fax 510.6870602
