KEI-P92-0205.P2
May 13 , 1992
Page 2
samples SW2 and SW3, respectively. Analytical results of water
sample W-1 indicated levels of TPH as gasoline at 1, 500 ppb, TPH as
diesel at 2,800 ppb, xylenes at 12 ppb, and non-detectable levels
of benzene, toluene, and ethylbenzene. Analytical results are
summarized in Tables 1 and 2 . Laboratory analyses and Chain of
Custody documentation are attached to this work plan/proposal.
PROPOSED FIELD WORK
PHASE I - SOIL EXCAVATION
1. KEI proposes to perform additional soil sampling following 3
feet of additional lateral excavation in the vicinity of the
southeast sidewall, to a maximum depth of about 11 feet below
grade. The additional excavation is proposed due to a
concentration of 120 ppm of TPH as diesel detected in sample
SW2, which was collected from the southeast sidewall. It is
anticipated that the maximum amount of additional soil to be
overexcavated will be approximately 100 cubic yards.
2 . All additional soil and stockpile samples will be analyzed for
TPH as gasoline by EPA method 5030/8015, for BTX&E by EPA
method 5030/8020, and for TPH as diesel by EPA method
3550/8015.
3. All excavated soil stockpiled on-site will be sampled to
determine appropriate disposition. One composite sample will
be collected from each 25 cubic yards of stockpiled soil.
Each composite sample will consist of four individual grab
samples taken at various locations and depths of 1 to 2 feet
into the stockpile. All excavated hazardous material, as
determined by composite sample laboratory results, will be
sent to a Class I disposal site. All non-hazardous excavated
soil will either be sent to a Class II disposal site, retained
on-site for treatment and resampling, or sent to a Class III
landfill. The portion of non-hazardous stockpiled soil sent
to each disposition location will be based on laboratory
results and volume considerations.
4 . Phase I will begin as soon as this work plan is approved by
the San Joaquin County Public Health Services Department.
PHASE II - GROUND WATER INVESTIGATION
Upon completion of Phase I (as described above) , KEI will develop
a work plan to investigate potential ground water contamination.
It is anticipated that the initial phase of the ground water
