AM Santa Fe Pacific Pipeline Partners, L.P. J-6075
L July 13, 1992 Page 3
Downgradient Well in the Eastern Site Corner
The existing well M-4 will serve as a downgradient well in the eastern
portion of the site.
Investigation of Vertical Groundwater Gradient
It is our understanding through discussions with the RWQCB that the
Technical Committee has proposed the installation of an offsite well cluster,
located east of existing monitoring well M-3. Based on the technical
committee's discussion with SFPPL, it was originally proposed that a well
cluster would be installed within the SFPPL Terminal property. Because a
well cluster will be placed offsite, the RWQCB has requested that SFPPL
install a well cluster on the SFPPL Terminal property to determine the
vertical gradient and delineate the vertical extent of hydrocarbon impacted
groundwater.
During this proposed preliminary investigation, SFPPL does not intend to
investigate the lower aquifers or vertical groundwater gradient beneath the
site. However, following the completion of this preliminary investigation,
SFPPL will evaluate and propose, if necessary, an additional phase of
investigation to assess the vertical gradient and extent of petroleum
hydrocarbon impact in the lower water-bearing zones.
As discussed, we assume that this letter constitutes your approval to initiate
work at this site as presented in the Work Plan and this addendum. The
tentative start date for this work will be July 21, 1992. If you have any further
questions, please call our office.
Sincerely,
?zudson
SER, INC. Dharme Rathn ake, P.E.
Project Geologist Technical Manager
PBH/DR:ah
