The First and Second QMRs discuss the groundwater
monitoring events conducted in January and May 2001. The Second QMR recommends discontinuation
of selected fuel oxygenates for various monitoring wells.
We have the following comments on these reports:
1. The First and Second QMRs are titled"Semi-Annual,"but these report on quarterly, not semi-
annual events.
2. The First QMR discusses the unusually high concentrations in various wells (i.e.,methyl tertiary
butyl ether (MTBE) detections in monitoring wells MW-4 and MW-8), but the Second QMR
does not discuss the continuing trends in these wells. Quarterly monitoring reports must discuss
continuing trends in wells with uncharacteristic results from the previous quarter.
3. The Second QMR recommends discontinuing analysis for all fuel oxygenates, with the exception of
MTBE, in two monitoring wells and various fuel oxygenates in five monitoring wells as listed in
Table 3. Board staff concurs with the recommendations in Table 3 of the QMR. In accordance with
Monitoring and Reporting Program No. 5-01-815, Equiva may implement the revised monitoring.
The third quarter groundwater monitoring report is due by 30 October 2001.
