7
Limited Soil Investigation Report - August 1997
Former STEELGARD PROPERTY
15700 McKinley Avenue, Lathrop, California
1.0. INTRODUCTION
In accordance with your request, Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc., (AGE) has prepared the
enclosed Limited Soil Investigation Report for the Former STEELGARD PROPERTY at 15700
McKinley Avenue, Lathrop, California(the site). The objective of this work was to assess the soil
in the vicinity of a clarifier and an evaporative pond for presence of petroleum hydrocarbons with
a scope of work that included establishment of eight exploratory soil borings;collection and analysis
of soil samples and preparation of this report. The location of the site with respect to its surroundings
is illustrated in Figure 1 -Location Map. Buildings and boring locations on the site are illustrated
in Figure 2 -Site Plan.
This scope of work was performed in accordance with San Joaquin County Public Health Services -
Environmental Health Division (PHS-EHD) and Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control
Board guidelines for the investigation of underground storage tank(UST) sites.
2.0. BACKGROUND
2.1 SITE LOCATION
The site is located in an industrial area of Lathrop at 15700 McKinley Avenue, at an elevation of
approximately 20 feet above sea level. A school-building fabrication facility currently occupies the
facility. Significant features on the property are illustrated in Figure 2 -Site Plan.
2.2. SITE RECONNAISSANCE
On 11 December 1996, representatives of AGE performed a site reconnaissance of the property to
locate apparent environmental concerns. The following areas of environmental concern were noted
during the site visit:
• A storm water retention pond is located along the eastern portion of the property.
• A small evaporation pond is located west of the repair shop. The evaporation pond is
approximately 75 feet in length, 50 feet in width and 5 feet in depth. The pond is plastic
lined; however vegetation was growing through the liner in several areas.
• A three-stage clarifier is located between the evaporation pond and the repair shop. The
clarifier apparently drains into a small canal located along the northern property boundary.
During the site visit, one lid of the clarifier was removed; the clarifier was filled to the top
