File No 20-3941-01 E01 k'g KLEINFELDER <br /> April 2, 1997 <br /> ' 2 SITE SETTING <br /> 2.1 Site Location <br /> ' The project is a corridor for the planned improvements for California State Highway I20 and <br /> McHenry Avenue in Escalon, California Escalon is located in southeastern San Joaquin County <br /> (see Plate 1) <br /> The properties which are the subject of this report are both located in Sections 4 of Township 2 <br /> ' South Range 9 East of the Mount Diablo Baseline and Meridian <br /> 2.2 Current Site Use and Vicinity Characteristics <br /> The project site is currently commercial property, state highway, city streets and utility easement <br /> areas <br /> 2.3 Geology and Hydrogeology <br /> The site lies within the Great Valley Geomorphic Province of California The valley is about <br /> 400 miles long and averages about 50 miles wide, and comprises about 20,000 square miles <br /> ' The valley has been filled with a thick sequence of marine and non-mann sediments from the <br /> late Jurassic to Holocene The uppermost strata of the Great Valley represents, for the most <br /> part, the alluvial, flood, and delta plains of two major rivers (Sacramento and San Joaquin <br /> Rivers) and their tributaries <br /> 1 <br /> The valley deposits are derived from the Coast Ranges to the west and the Sierra Nevada to the <br /> east Granitic and metamorphic rocks outcrop along the eastern and southeastern flanks of the <br /> valley Marine sedimentary rocks outcrop along most of the western, southwestern, southern, <br /> and southeastern flanks, and volcanic rocks and deposits outcrop along the northeastern flanks <br /> of the valley The valley geomorphology includes dissected uplands, low alluvial plains and <br /> fans, river flood plains and channels, and overflow lands and lake bottoms <br /> The site itself is located in the western boundary of the San Joaquin Valley in an area <br /> characterized by dissected uplands Dissected uplands commonly appear along the flanks of <br /> the valley near the mountain borders They show forms characteristic of alluvial fans, but range <br /> in relief from several hundred feet to only a few feet <br /> 20-3941-01 E0112017RO05 Page 2 of 11 ®1997, Kleinfelder, Inc <br />
