1 <br /> Sde Assessment Report and Request for Closure 1 <br /> Sears Auto Center No 1288,5110 Pacific Avenue, Stockton,California February 10,2000 <br /> 1 1,0 INTRODUCTION <br /> IT Corporation conducted a subsurface environmental assessment at Sears Auto Center No 1298, an <br /> 1 active automotive service center This assessment was performed to confirm the vertical extent of <br /> potential soil containing petroleum hydrocarbons adjacent to three former 10,000-gallon gasoline and <br /> four 1,000-gallon new/used-oil underground storage tanks (USTs) Soil sampling was required <br /> because bottom of excavation samples were not collected when the USTs were removed in 1985 <br /> Using a DPT sampling ng, the borings were advanced to a minimum of 12 feet below ground surface <br /> (bgs) Borings VA-1 and VA-2 were advanced at a 20-degree angle to avoir`concrete pad that�T <br /> 1 supported the former new/used-oil USTs Bonngs VA-3 through VA-6 were advanced vertically within <br /> 10 feet of the former gasoline USTs <br /> 1 All drilling/sampling activities were performed under the direction of Mr Scott DeMuth, Sears, <br /> Roebuck and Co (Sears), 3333 Beverly Road, Dept 768EV, A2-245A, Hoffman Estates, IL 60179, <br /> (847) 286-5530 The consultant work was conducted under the supervision of Mr David Bero, IT <br /> 1 Corporation, 4005 Port Chicago Highway, Concord, California, 94520, (925) 288-2024 The lead <br /> agency for the site is the San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division <br /> (PHS/EHD) <br /> 2.0 SITE BACKGROUND <br /> 21 Site Description <br /> Sears Auto Center No 1288 is located at 5110 Pacific Avenue in Stockton, California (Figures 1 and <br />' 2) The site is located in an area of mixed land use that includes a college campus to the west and <br /> retail properties to the north, south, and east The immediate property includes the active Sears Auto <br />' Center, which is surrounded to the north, south, and east by a large parking lot <br />' 2.2 Site History <br /> Sears Auto Center No 1288 previously contained seven 1,000-gallon new/used oil USTs and three <br /> 10,000-gallon gasoline USTs Four new/used oil USTs and the three 10,000-gallon gasoline USTs <br /> were removed in February 1985, the remaining three new/used oil USTs were rerroved in June 1987 <br /> The USTs removed in June 1987 were closed by PHS/EHD (Appendix A) However, because bottom <br /> 1 of tank samples were not collected during removal of the USTs In 1985, PHS/EHD could not grant <br /> closure of the gasoline and remaining four new/used oil USTs (Appendix A) The purpose of this <br /> assessment was to collect bottom of excavation samples from the USTs removed in 1985 in order to <br /> lie obtain site closure The dispenser island and the product lines were removed during a soil assessment <br /> 1 <br /> 12UVAR dw rr CORPORATION <br />
