Harlin Knoll
September 23, 1994
Page 4
samples collected from the oil supply/used oil line excavation are presented in Table 2 A summary
of the CAM metals analytical results is presented in Table 3 Copies of the laboratory reports for all
samples are presented in Appendix 3
2.5 Soil Characterization
1 Groundwater Technology personnel field screened excavated soil with a PID, using headspace
methodologies The contractor segregated clean and impacted soil and stockpiled impacted sod on
plastic sheeting as directed by Groundwater Technology personnel Sod was segregated based on
visual observations and PID field screening results Any sod above 10 ppm on the PID or visually
stained by hydrocarbons was stockpiled Gasoline-impacted sod (approximately 4 cubic yards) was
stockpiled separately from the used-oil-impacted soil (approximately 2 cubic yards) Both stockpiles
were sampled for disposal/treatment and securely covered with plastic Both stockpiles remain on
site pending removal for treatment The analytical data for the stockpiled sod is presented in
Appendix 4
3 0 SUMMARY OF FINDINGS
The following points summarize Groundwater Technology's findings at Sears Store 1288 in Stockton,
California
s On August 10 through 12, gasoline product piping and the dispenser islands were
removed Gasoline hydrocarbons In the sod were detected beneath the south end of the
eastern dispenser island, and in the product line trench west of the western dispenser
island Hydrocarbon concentrations ranged from 1 8 to 5 8 mg/kg
■ Analytical results from soil samples collected from the oil supply/used oil line excavation
indicated there was petroleum hydrocarbon Impact (9 mg/kg to 460 mg/kg total oil and
grease) to the soil
■ Pesticide concentrations of 2 3 and 1 3 micrograms per kilogram of 4,4-DDE and 4,4-DDD,
respectively, were detected in sample W02-3 5
■ Based upon field screening and observations, excavated sods were segregated Non-
impacted soils from the gasoline product and used oil line excavations were used as
backfill at the site, while approximately 4 cubic yards of gasoline-impacted soil and 2 yards
of used-oil-impacted soil remain on site pending removal for treatment
aSem#12 08AS ❑❑® GROUNDWATER
#1Stockton ❑❑❑ TECHNOLOGY
