APR 28 '98 10:42 FR LEVINE-FRICKE-RECON 510 6524906 TO 12094683433 P.05i19
Levine Fricke Recon
vehicles). Generally three to five wells will be tested at a time. The system startup activities will
take from one to three days at each group of wells.
Remedial Investigation Field Activities
CPT/PIPP Borings
The CPT/PIPP investigation is being conducted to assess the southern extent of Hazardous
Substances in the B-zone aquifer and in the vicinity of the former Finest Care Cleaners, as part of
the RI at Lincoln Center.
Two borings, one for lithology (CPT) and one for groundwater sampling (PIPP), will be
completed in the parking lot adjacent to the Rite Aid building (Figure 4). The CPT/PIPP borings
will be advanced to a depth of approximately 140 feet below ground surface (bgs). Groundwater
samples will be collected from the second boring for subsequent laboratory analysis.
Six borings, three for lithology (CPT) and three for groundwater sampling (PIPP) will be
completed in the vicinity of the former Finest Care CIeaners. The CPT/PIPP borings will be
advanced to a depth of approximately 80 feet bgs. Groundwater samples will be collected from the
PIPP borings for subsequent laboratory analysis. When drilling is completed, the borings will be
backfilled with a cement grout mixture and the pavement surrounding the borings will be restored
to its original condition.
Possible Installation of an A-Zone Aquifer Groundwater Monitoring Well
A groundwater monitoring well may be constructed in the parking lot adjacent to the Rite Aid
building, depending upon whether Hazardous Substances are detected in the groundwater samples
collected from the CPT/PIPP borings at that location. If needed the monitoring well would be
constructed to a depth of approximately 80 feet bgs following the procedures specified in Section
2.4 of the FSP. Additional notification will be provided if the well is scheduled for installation.
All drilling and CPT equipment will be decontaminated in accordance with the procedures
presented in Section 4.1 of the FSP_ All waste generated during this work will be managed in
accordance with the procedures presented in the Investigation-Derived Residuals Management
Plan, Appendix D of the RI/FS Work Plan. All of these activities will be performed in accordance
with the Health and Safety Plan, Appendix F of the RI/FS Work Plan.
Field Equipment
Field equipment for the groundwater extraction well installation will consist of a mud-rotary
drilling rig, shaker trailer, and support vehicles. Field equipment for the piezometer installation
will consist of a hollow-stem drilling rig and support vehicles. Examples of this drilling equipment
can be found on the northern portion of Lincoln Center, where LFR is presently working on LPL
La-Accen40m-Ex Wells-00111:5RL 4
