OUR
groundwater extraction and treatment system; in fact, the pumping rate for the remaining operation
extraction wells will likely increase as the total pumping capacity (i.e., flow rate) of the overall
system will remain the same. In addition, piezometers PZ-002A-1, PZ-002A-2, and PZ-003A will
not be replaced as the purpose of these piezometers is to monitor drawdown induced by pumping of
extraction wells GWE-01 and GWE-02.
The abandonment of these wells will be completed by a licensed C-57 drilling company under the
observation of an LFR geologist and San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
(SJCEHD) personnel. Before fieldwork is begun, a drilling permit for well abandonment will be
obtained from the SJCEHD. At a minimum, the wells will be abandoned in place with a cement-
bentonite grout slurry placed from the bottom up using a tremie pipe. The associated vault boxes
and upper 5 feet of well casing will be removed after each well is abandoned. In addition, the
lateral that serves well GWE-002 will be excavated, cut at the "T", and capped. After
decommissioning activities take place, a completed California Department of Water Resources
Well Completion Report (Form 188) describing well abandonment activities will be submitted to
the RWQCB in Sacramento.
If you have any questions or comments, please call Lucas Goldstein at (510) 596-9535 or Don
Bradshaw at (512) 895-0003.
Sincerely,
Donald T.
