Lincoln Center- Injection Pilo 4dy
Page ] of 3
Mike Infurna [EH]
From: Spill, Chris [Chris.Spill@lfccomj
Sent: Thursday, February 22, 2007 9:37 AM
To: Mike Infurna [EH]
Subject: RE: Lincoln Center- Injection Pilot Study
Thanks Mike.
one last question: can an injection point be installed that is screened in two to three impacted saturated
zones and still be able to be pressure grouted for abandonment? For example, an injection point would be
screened from 45 to 60, 65 to 80, and 95 to 110 feet bgs with blank casing in between. The injection point would
then have internal smaller diameter piping to target each impacted saturated zone for injection and rubber
packers set between the screened intervals.
We will likely have a work plan to the RWQCB next month and approval in late April. We'll be in touch shortly
thereafter for permitting.
Thanks for your help.
From: Mike Infurna [EH] [mailto:MInfurna@sjcehd.com]
Sent: Wednesday, February 21, 2007 4:26 PM
To: Spill, Chris
Subject: RE: Lincoln Center - Injection Pilot Study
Thanks for the update.
I'll list my answers below related to your three questions.
1-limit to screen for pressure grouts?? NO.
2-nested well prohibitions? We frown on their installation because destructions are so problematic. Remember,
if these"Hells" (casings, etc)are in a contaminated zone, then pressure grouting is NOT an option for destruction.
Then ONLY over-bore (..."removing the contents of the borehole...")as per County Ordinance is the only way left
and centering on a 'nested'well is a problem. After the multiple casings are CENTERED in the borehole,
overdrilling later means using an auger large enough to not only drill out the casing used to center the augers, but
large enough to reach out and do the same for the other casing. Make a scaled drawing of two 2-inch casings in
a 10-inch borehole. You'll see that the same 10-inch auger will NOT reach out to the edge of the original
borehole as required and my experience tells me that consultants and driller don't like using 14-inch or larger
auger to grout/on destructions...
Call me for details if this is confusing.
3- Direct push is ok fine for installations. Our Ordinance is only concerned with GROUT annulus of NLT 2-inches.
Others have 'pre-drilled'to total proposed grout depth with an 8-inch auger, then used direct push down thru this
hole to place a casing. If you want less than 2-inches around your sand and bent, your choice. We only care
about the grout annulus.
And 4- new plan, new permits.
And this extra point regarding pressure grouting. Knowing Lincoln center as well as I do, I can't image you want
to pressure grout because of the large hole/patch (original borehole size PLUS 12-inches---8-inch auger install
plus 12-inches =20-inch hole) in their blacktop!!!
Again, call me if you need additional explanation.
Mike Infurna.
(209)468-3454.
2/22/2007
