M •
LFR Inc.
Groundwater monitoring wells will be purged before sampling using the "low-flow"
(also termed "micro-purge") technique. The water will be purged using a low-flow
peristaltic pump with new, dedicated polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), or
silicone tubing in each well. The pump intake tubing will typically be located in
approximately the middle of the screen interval in the wells in which the screened
interval is known. The wells will be purged at a rate that maintains approximately 90%
of the water column. Purged water will be pumped through a YSI 560 (or equivalent)
flow-through cell equipped with ports for probes that will measure the field parameters
and allow for the collection of samples to be submitted to state-certified laboratories as
discussed below. Purged water will be collected in a 55-gallon drum and processed
through the on-site GWETS.
During low-flow sampling of the wells, the following field parameters will be measured
and recorded approximately every five minutes:
• DO
• pH
• conductivity
• temperature
• ORP
DO, pH, conductivity, temperature, and ORP will be measured directly from probes set
in the flow-through cell and recorded on field data sheets.
During low-flow purging, groundwater samples will be collected for analyses by a
state-certified laboratory. The groundwater samples will be collected for the following
analyses:
• total dissolved solids (TDS) using EPA Method 415.2
• TOC using EPA Method 415.1
• TIC using EPA Method 415.1
• VOCs using EPA Method 82600 by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry
• sulfate using EPA Method 300.0
• nitrate using EPA Method 300.0
• ethene and ethane using RSK 175
• total iron using EPA Method 6010A
• ferrous iron using EPA Method 3060A
• hydrogen using gas chromatography/flame ionization detector (GC/FID)
• methane using GC/FID
Page 26 wp-PhV IRA-Sep07-Final-06750.dm:Ifr
