Geosynte&
consultants
3. SVE/AS SYSTEM DECOMISSIONING
System decommissioning activities included permitting, disconnecting the SVE/AS
treatment equipment and conveyance piping, destroying the SVE/AS wells, and making
surface pavement repairs. The location of the conveyance piping and wells to be
destroyed are shown on Figure 2. The construction details of the wells are summarized
on Table 1 and include:
• Thirty seven SVE wells installed between 28- and 30- feet below grade;
• Twenty two SVE monitoring probes installed between 20-to 30- feet below
grade;
• Forty five vertical air sparge wells installed between 57- to 66-feet below grade;
and
• Fourteen air sparge wells installed at an angle under Benjamin Holt Drive
installed with a total well length of 54-to 76- feet long.
3.1 Permitting
The Trust will obtain well destruction permits from SJCEHD following approval of the
Work Plan by the CVRWQCB. Field activities will be coordinated with SJCEHD for
inspection of the field work as needed.
SVE wells SVE-011 and SVMW-02lare located off-Site in the City of Stockton right-
of-way to the west along N Gettysburg Place. Following approval of the Work Plan the
Trust will obtain necessary encroachment permits for destruction of these off-Site wells.
The encroachment permits will be submitted with the well destruction permit
application per SJCEHD guidelines.
3.2 SVE and AS Equipment Removal
Treatment system components associated with the SVE/AS system will be mothballed
and secured to prevent unintentional operation. The Trust expects that the SVE/AS
equipment located in the treatment compound will remain in place while the
groundwater extraction and treatment system (GETS) continues to operate. All
treatment equipment will be properly removed after the GETS is permanently
shutdown.
In order to be least intrusive to business activities at the Site, all subgrade SVE/AS
conveyance piping will be capped in place or removed without significant excavation of
System Decommissioning and Well Destruction Work Plan 5 07/18/2014
