Honeybaked Ham Company, Inc. July 29, 1994
Project No. 200439-02
The site is located at 6530 Pacific Avenue, southeast of the intersection of Ben Holt Drive and
Pacific Avenue, in Stockton, California (Figure 1). The site is currently occupied by a vacant
bank building and parking areas. The property and building are owned by The Bank of
America (BOA). Ninyo &Moore was retained by Honeybaked Ham Company,Inc. (HBHC),
to perform a property transfer environmental site assessment of the site.
Our previous study (Ninyo & Moore, 1994b) indicated that the site is located within
approximately 200 feet of two gasoline stations with leaking underground storage tanks
(Chevron at 6633 Pacific Avenue, and Exxon at 6425 Pacific Avenue). Groundwater beneath
these two gasoline stations has reportedly been contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons
including gasoline and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes (BTEX). The SJCEHD
Underground Storage Tank (UST) Cleanup Unit stated that based on currently available
data there is no indication that contamination from these two gasoline stations has migrated
beneath the subject site. However, a representative of the SJCEHD indicated that
groundwater remediation has yet to begin at these two properties and that further migration
of groundwater contamination is possible. In addition, our study indicated that the subject
site is Iocated in the immediate vicinity of a plume of chlorinated solvent (halogenated
organic compounds) contaminated groundwater. This plume reportedly originated at the
Lincoln Center Shopping Center located directly west of the site, across Pacific Avenue. A
representative of the California Regional Water Quality Control Board,Central Valley Region
(RWQCBCV), indicated that delineation of the horizontal and vertical extent of this plume
has been inconclusive and that the responsible parties will be requested to perform
additional work to further delineate the extent of the plume.
SUBSURFACE SAMPLING
Subsurface samples were collected from the approximate locations shown on figure 2. The
sampling locations were selected based on proximity to areas of concern in the site vicinity.
The sampling locations (SP-1 and SP-2) were evaluated for the presence of subsurface
structures by a subsurface geophysical survey, prior to commencement of sampling.
2 #dnY®&*'M8sP-
