Honeybaked Ham Company, Inc. July 29, 1994
Project No. 200439-02
Samples were collected using a Stratoprobe Sampling System (Stratoprobe) by Transglobal
Environmental Geochemistry (TEG) of Sacramento, California. A 1.5-inch diameter, hollow,
stainless steel rod was hydraulically driven into the subsurface. Relatively undisturbed soil
samples were collected from the probe tip at selected depth intervals by driving pre-cleaned
brass tubes into the soil. Soil samples were collected from SP-1 at depths of 10 and 42 feet
below ground surface (bgs). Based on information from the SJCEHD and RWQCBCV,
groundwater was anticipated to be found at approximately 44 feet bgs. A groundwater
sampling tip was driven in SP-1 to a depth of 52 feet bsg, and left in place for approximately
30 minutes. Groundwater was not observed in the probe tip and the rods were subsequently
removed. The sampling tip was dry upon removal.
Soil samples were collected from SP-2 at depths of 10,42 and 50 feet bsg. Approximately ten
minutes after removal of the soil sampling tip (dry) and rods from SP-2 it was noted that
groundwater had accumulated at the bottom of the hole. TEG made three attempts to
collect a sample of groundwater from SP-2. The approximately two feet of groundwater at
the bottom of SP-2 was silty and caused the water sampling equipment to clog. Therefore,
a groundwater sample was not collected.
At the direction of the SJCEHD, SP-1 and SP-2 were backfilled by pumping a slurry of neat
cement through a one-inch diameter pipe placed in the holes.
ANALYTICAL PROCEDURES AND RESULTS
Soil samples were transferred, under chain-of-custody protocol to TEG's on-site, state-
certified mobile laboratory for analysis. Soil samples were analyzed for total petroleum
hydrocarbons (TPH) in the gasoline range using EPA test method 8015, modified, BTEX
using EPA test method 8020, total recoverable petroleum hydrocarbons (TRPH) using EPA
test method 418.1, and halogenated volatile organic compounds (HVOCs) using EPA test
method 801.0.
The soil samples did not contain detectable Ievels of TPH, BTEX or HVOCs. The soil
samples collected from SP-1 did not contain detectable levels of TRPH. TRPH was detected
3 *J7JF,0&*ODIr@
