Honeybaked Ham Company; I'nc. - July 29, 1994
Project No. 200439-02
in samples SP-2-42' .(the sample collected- from SP-2 at 42 feet- bs ' and SP-2-50' at
concentrations of 20 and.65 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) respectively: SP-2-10' did-not
- contain- detectable levels of TRPH. .Analytical results are summarized 'in Table 1. The
laboratory report, including chain-of-custody °and.QA/QC documentation, is attached.
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Because TPH, BTEX and HVOCs were not detected in the soil samples collected, it is our
opinion that the soil beneath the'_"site-has not been impacted by releases at the Chevron and'
Exxon stations. Although-no groundwater sample was available for analysis, the soil sample
collected at 50 feet in SP-2 appears to have been collected-from a zone of saturated soil,
below the water table. The_analytical results for this soil sample do provide indirect
indications of what constituents maybe present in the groundwater at that location. Because
7.
TPH, BTEX and HVOCs were not detected,in this sample, it appears likely that the shallow
groundwater in the vicinity. of SP-2 has.not, been impacted by the fuels' from the Chevron
or Exxon stations, or by the solvents from Lincoln Center: It should be noted, however, that
this opinion. has been made from indirect-in€ormation`and. that analysis -of groundwater"
samples would be needed for-a higher level of confidence.
The levels of TRPH detected in samples collected from SP-2 are less than those generally .
considered environmentally significant. -Low levels of TRPH often result from the natural
degradation of organic. material-in=soil.:_.,The=proximity of these samples to the apparent
water table would_tend to ,indicate that low"'levels of .TRPH may exist in groundwater
beneath the site.
Based on the findings of this limited subsurface assessment,= no further sampling -is
recommended. As discussed with you previously, a-copy of this report will be submitted to._
the SJCEHD. - _
