Waste Type(s) (Mark those that are applicable):
petroleum liquids Other(please specify):
petroleum sludges
X contaminated soil and
groundwater
Waste Characteristics: (Mark those that are applicable):
X ignitable X Volatile
corrosive Radioactive
X toxic Unknown
reactive Other (please specify):
Known/Suspected Chemical Hazards: Chemicals of concern include diesel, gasoline and
benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes (BTEX). Overexposure to these compounds can
cause headache, dizziness, nausea, and eye, nose and throat irritation. Benzene is a known
carcinogen. Permissible exposure limits (PELs) for BTEX compounds are 1, 50, 100, and 100
parts per million (ppm), respectively. PELs listed are based on an 8-hour time weighted average
for exposure to airborne compounds. The primary route of exposure for diesel and BTEX
compounds is inhalation.
FIRST AID:
Inhalation - At first signs of headache or dizziness, remove victim from work area and give
fresh air. if breathing has stopped, administer artificial respiration. Get medical attention
immediately.
Skin and Eye Contact - Flush eyes immediately with water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally
lifting the eyelids. Remove contaminated clothing. Wash affected body areas with large
amounts of soap and water. Get medical attention if irritation persists after washing.
Ingestion -Do not induce vomiting. Keep victim warm and at rest. Get medical attention. --
