Riddle, P.C.
22180 May Road
Acampo, CA 95220
Subject: Former Victor Fine Foods, 18846 N. Hwy. 99 Frontage Rd., Lodi, CA
Pond 2 Soil Sampling Results
Dear Mr. Riddle:
We are writing to transmit the results of the recent soil sampling conducted at the subject
facility. As you are aware, the Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) has expressed
concern that soils within "Pond 2" might have elevated salinity due to the former use of the pond
and that this might necessitate compaction and capping to prevent groundwater degradation. The
purpose of the work described herein was to determine the salinity levels in the pond.
Analytical Methods:
Prior to sampling, Mr. Victor Izzo with RWQCB was contacted and the appropriate analytical
methods discussed with him. It was agreed that the method that would yield the most reliable
data would be to extract the samples with deionized water by the California Waste Extraction
Test ("WET") and to analyze the extract for total dissolved solids (TDS), chloride and sodium.
Soil Sampling_
On June 30 and July 1, 1999 a Ground Zero technician collected soil samples with a hand auger
from ten locations within Pond 2. Each location was designated by a letter and a number
corresponding to the grid coordinates. Samples were collected at each location from depths of
2, 5 and 10 feet. In addition, background samples were collected from the same depths at a
location north of the pond and at a location south of the pond. Sampling locations and field
notes are included in Attachment A.
go&rwg%pmd2.rpt
