d
s „
ARCADIS Ms. Lori Duncan
October 8, 2008
i
Soil Borings
Five soil borings were advanced at the locations shown on Figure 1. Prior to drilling,
each location was hand cleared using an air knife to a depth of 8-feet 1-inch (utility
clearance depth) bgs. Four of'the soil boring locations were completed as monitoring
wells. The fifth boring located southwest of the former dispenser islands was
advanced to the top of the water table, and grouted to ground surface upon
completion. The water table was typically encountered at approximately 58 feet bgs,
and the wells were screened at depth intervals of approximately 65 to 75 feet bgs.A
minimum of two soil samples, from each boring location, were collected for laboratory
analysis during the advancement of the borings.
Soil Analytical Data
A total of 14 soil samples were packed on ice, cooled to approximately 4° centigrade,
and shipped, under appropriate chain-of-custody protocols, to Lancaster
Laboratories Incorporated (Lancaster)of Lancaster, Pennsylvania for-analysis. Soil
samples were analyzed for the following analytes:
• TPH-GRO[C6-C121, total petroleum hydrocarbons in the diesel range(TPH-DRO
[C10-C281), total petroleum hydrocarbons in the motor oil range(TPH-MO.[C16-C361),
methanol, and ethanol by United States Environmental Protection Agency
(USEPA) Method 8015
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (BTEX)by USEPA Method
8260B
• Tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA), methyl tertiary butyl ether(MTBE), ethyl tertiary butyl
I
ether(ETBE), tertiary amyl methyl ether(TAME), di-isopropyl ether(DIPE), 1,2-
DCA, and 1,2-dibromoethane(EDB)by USEPA Method 8260B
TPH-GRO, TPH-DRO, TPH-MO, BTEX, TBA, MTBE, ETBE, TAME, DIPE, 1,2-DCA,
and EDB were below laboratory method detection limits (MD Ls) in all soil samples
collected. Methanol was detected at concentrations of 0.25 mg/kg and 0.20 mg/kg in
the soil samples collected from MW-3(40 feet bgs) and B-3 (40 feet bgs),
respectively. Ethanol was detected at a concentration of 0.76 mg/kg in the soil
sample collected from MW-3 (40 feet bgs). ESLs have not been established for
ethanol or methanol concentrations in soil.
