Hwy. 99 E. Frontage Road
Stockton CA 95215
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (SJC/EHD) has reviewed Site
Assessment Work Plan (Work Plan) dated November 14, 2007, submitted on your behalf by
Arcadis BBL (Arcadis) and has the following comments.
Arcadis proposes in the Work Plan to continue the investigation of this site by first conducting
a geophysical survey to determine if underground storage tanks (UST)were closed in place
rather than removed, followed by the installation of five soil borings, four of which will be
converted to shallow groundwater monitoring wells.
The soil borings will be continuously cored from 8-feet 1-inch below surface grade (bsg) to
total depth for soil classification. Soil samples for chemical analysis will be collected every
ten feet from the boring proposed southwest of the dispenser island. Two soil samples will
be selected from each of the other four borings and submitted for chemical analysis. The
groundwater monitoring wells will be built to approximate depth of 72 feet bsg, and will have
a screened interval of 10 feet.
SJC/EHD approves the scope of work thus far proposed. However, the Work Plan did not
propose investigation of the vertical extent of the documented contamination in the
groundwater. Please submit a work plan addendum to investigate the vertical extent of the
groundwater contamination. The addendum is due for submittal to SJC/EHD no later than
December 28, 2007.
If you have any questions please call Lori Duncan at (209) 468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Department
Lori Duncan, Senior REHS Nuel C.
