This review produced very little information. However, what documents we were
able to locate indicate that Texaco's ground lease for the property located at U.S.HWY 99 &Clark
(believed to be the above-referenced property),was terminated effective October 13, 1973. Copies of
these documents are attached for your reference.
Chevron conducted a review of the technical data obtained through a file review at the San
Joaquin County Environmental Health Department. It appears that the main constituents of concern
(COCs)at this site are methyl tertiary butyl ether(MTBE)and 1-2,Dichloroethane(1-2, DCA). MTBE
was not used in the industry as a fuel additive until 1979,and Texaco did not begin using MTBE in the
region until 1992. The MTBE detections indicate that the release occurred after Texaco's tenure on the
site, which lasted from 1957 to 1973. 1-2,DCA is present on the site at elevated concentrations, but there
is no reason to connect such releases to service station operations as it is a common industrial solvent.
Therefore, it is unlikely that Texaco contributed to the current environmental conditions at the site.
We are unaware of any information to support a claim that Texaco's operation of a service station
contributed to the current contamination. Without such information, Chevron cannot accept responsibility
for the current environmental conditions on the site or cooperate with any remediation associated with
such conditions.
Should you have any questions or wish to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact me
at(925) 842-9559 or the Chevron Project Manager, Stephanie Furgal at(925) 842-1466. Thank you.
Very truly yours,
c4UAn
Kelly C.
