PUBLIC I-10TALTH SERVIS <br /> SAN JOAQUN C0U-L\,i`1Y r _ 2 <br /> ENVIRONNI MN- F AL HE.X= DIVISION <br /> Karen Furst, NLD., M.P.H., Health Officer : F3 <br /> 304 East Weber gvenue, Third Floor • Stockton, Ck 95202 <br /> 209/468-3420 <br /> SEP 251997 <br /> To Whom It May Concern <br /> ANALYSIS REQUIRED FOR OXYGENATE COMPOUNDS <br /> San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Civisien (PHS/EHO) is under <br /> Local Oversight Program (LOP) contract with the Catifomia State Water Resources Control <br /> Board (S'WRC3) to provide oversight for the investigation and deanuo of unauthorized releases <br /> Tom underground storage anks. i his contract includes a provision for technical support by the <br /> Califomia Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (CVRWQCS). <br /> PHSiEHD has recently received a letterfrom the CVRWQC3 that provides guidance on how to <br /> analyze for the oxygenated compounds in gasoline until a 'definitive orotacol' can be <br /> established_ Based on this letter, PHS/E,.D is directing you to analyze samples from all of <br /> ,your monitoring wells for Tertiary Butyl Alcohol (TBA), Methyt Tertiary Bu yt Ether(MTBE), Di- <br /> isoprooyi ether (DIPE), Ethyl Tertiary Butyl Ether(ET BE) and Tentary Amyi Methyi Ether <br /> (TAME) by EPA method 8260. PHS/EHD will require analysis of samples for Methanol and <br /> Ethanol where here is reason to believe that these compounds were stored in the underground <br /> tank(s). <br /> PHS/EHD requires quarterty sampling of ail wells where he presence of oxygenates is <br /> confirmed by EPA method 8260. Modification of this required sampling such as number of wells <br /> sampled, sampling frequency and method of analysis may be granted only after initial sample <br /> results are reviewed by PHS/E:-D.
