ELM-
7.4
Total Or anis Va or c-incr
A Bacharach TLV Sniffer calibrated against a hexane standard
or equivalent instrumentation will be used to monitor total
volatile organic compound (VOc) vapor concentrations. Prior to
initiation of drilling activities, an ambient background reading
(15 minute average) will be measured upwind of the work zone.
Air monitoring during drilling activities at each boring
location will be conducted in the immediate breathing zones. If
total VOC readings exceed 50 ppm over background, the
respirators identified in Section 7.3 will be donned. The SSO
will then use Draeger tubes to attempt to identify airborne
contaminants. Respirators will be donned until the SSO
indicates that their use is no longer
warranted.
If total VOC readings exceed 100 ppm over background,
personnel will evacuate the Exclusion Zone until levels
diss'.pate and the sSO indicates that work can safely be
reinitiated or alternative forms of protection are provided.
7.5 Noise Monitarin-9
Personnel near the drill rig, where noise levels may exceed
85 dBA, will be required to wear hearing protective devices
capable of reducing noise levels to no more than 85 dBA. These
may include ear plugs and/or ear muffs.
7.6 Emer ncy Equipment
In addition the emergency equipment at the site, fire
extinguishers and a first aid kit will be maintained within a
_ designated area at all times during drilling activities.
7.7 Sanitation
Montgomery ward has agreed to designate one of the existing
lavatories for use by personnel involved in completing
assessment activities. Adequate volumes of soap and paper
i ' towels shall be maintained for the purpose of personal hygiene.
Bottled drinking water will be provided in a container
clearly marked "drinking water". The use of a common drinking
cup is strictly prohibited. Disposable single service cups will
be provided and must be properly disposed in a receptacle.
Project No. 1232 -13-
EAFV1ROV1JEVTAL AUDIT,LVC?
t,.r
