Ci
a 3
p. 6.0 DISCUSSION
No TPH-G were detected in the samples obtained from boring
B-5. Toluene was the only aromatic hydrocarbon detected in the
samples from boring B-5 at concentrations ranging from 0.01 to
0.140 ppm.
TPH-G were detected in all ten soil samples obtained from
boring B-6, except sample B-6 @ 61 , at concentrations ranging
from 5.5 to 5,400 ppm. Seven of the samples contained TPH--G
concentrations ranging between 610 and 5,400 ppm, with an
average concentration of about 2,700 ppm, Benzene (0.57 ppm) -
was only detected in sample B-6 C 501 . Toluene (ranging from
0.05 to 250 ppm) was detected in all of the samples obtained
from boring 8-6. Xylenes (ranging from 0. 15 to 860 ppm) and
ethylbenzene (ranging from 0.008 to 170 ppm) were detected in
all of the samples obtained from boring B-6, except sample
B-6 @ 6' .
It should be noted that the laboratory detection limits for:
1) benzene by the EPA Method 8020 ranged from 0.5 to 10 ppm;
2) VOCs by EPA Method 8240 ranged from 10 to 25 ppm; and
3) EOCs ranged from 0.67 to 3.4 ppm. These detection limits are
high, and are reportedly associated with limitations of the
NATER laboratory equipment. Therefore, it is possible that VOCs
and EOCs are present in the samples at concentrations below the
elevated laboratory detection limits.
No organic lead was detected in any of the samples test-ed.
Total lead analyses were conducted on the two samples which
contained the highest TPH-G concentrations (B-6 @ 25' and
B-6 @ 411) . Total lead concentrations ranged from 10.9 to 38.1
ppm. The soluble lead concentration for the sample with the
highest total lead concentration (B-6 @ 5') was 0.96 ppm. The
total and soluble lead concentrations are well below the
standards contained in Title 22, California Code of Regulations.
- No TPH--G or BTXE were detected in the equipment 'clank.
Toluene was the only compound detected in the trip blank at a
concentration of 0.0011 ppm. The presence of this compound in
the trip blank could be the result of EAI sample handling
procedures or the result of laboratory induced contamination.
Regardless of the source, the effect on the quality of the
analytical data is not considered significant.
Project No. 1232 -7-
L AUDIAV,
