Y
a
is
k
3
The soil samples were collected, labelled, and handled in a
manner identical to the procedure described in Section 2.1.
The product lines were located at a depth of approximately
two feet bgs and appeared to be encased in concrete. No
concrete casing existed around the product pipes along Fuel
Island No. 2 (see Figure 3) .
2.3 SAMPLING E UIPMENT CI,F.ANTNG RROTOCOL
All soil sampling equipment was decontaminated between each
sampling by the following procedure:
- All excess soil was scraped off the sampler parts;
- The sampler was washed in a solution of Alconox detergent
and tap water; and
- The sampler was rinsed with tap water and then distilled
water.
2 .4 EFFLUENT HANDLING
All effluent generated during assessment activities were
sealed in labeled 55-gallon drums. The drums were stored on-
site, pending the results of the analytical testing, at which
time the appropriatE disposal method was determined.
3.0 SUBSURFACE CONDITIONS
The subsurface conditions encountered in the soil borings
are presented on the boring logs (see Appendix B) . The
following is a generalized summary of the soil stratigraphy
encountered.
The two soil borings around the sewer line (SB-1 and SB-2)
encountered man-made fill to a maximum depth of approximately
3.5 feet bgs. Both man-made fill and natural ground to the
termination depth of the borings consisted of a brown and moist,
slightly sandy silt.
The soil stratigraphy at the proximity of the product lines,
below the concrete pavement and gravel base consisted of a thin
layer of man-made fill to a maximum depth of approximately 1.5
E - feet bgs. The fill consisted of a brown sandy to slightly sandy
silt sandwiched between two layers of sandy gravel. Below this
fill, natural ground consisting of a thin layer of dark brown to
black organic silty clay (one to two fee'-- thick) was encountered
and interbedded with thin layers of tan to brown slightly sandy
to slightly clayey silt to the termination depth of the borings.
3 J
Project No. 1232 -4-
E ENVIPOWMENTAL AUDIT,INC
s.a ..
