1
3 3 GROUND WATER SAMPLING
' On March 4, 1993, the wells were developed using a Grundfos submersible pump,
until the water was relatively free of settleable solids After development the wells were
purged of approximately four well casing volumes of water using a Grundfos submersible
pump Turbidity, conductivity, temperature, and pH readings were obtained to evaluate
' the effectiveness of purging activities (see Table 1). The wells were then sampled in the
order that purging activities were completed The ground water samples were collected
from just below the water table surface using Voss Technologies' disposable bottom bailers
equipped with VOC samplers Use of these bailers precludes the potential for cross-
contamination Each sample was sealed in four 40-milliliter (ml) VOA vials with Teflon
septa lined lids The vials were completely filled so that no head space existed between the
samples and the lids. The samples were labeled, handled and transported as described in
' Section 3 1.
On March 5, 1993, EAI personnel obtained depth to fluid level measurements from
' wells MW-1 and MW-2 using an interface probe accurate to 0 01 feet (see Table 2). No
free-product was detected in the wells
' 3 4 SAMPLING EQUIPMENT CLEANING PROTOCOL
All augers were steam cleaned prior to the drilling of each boring The drive sampler
was disassembled and decontaminated prior to each sampling by the following procedure
' - All excess soil was scraped off the sampler parts,
- The sampler was washed in a solution of Alconox detergent and tap water, and
-The sampler was rinsed with tap water and then distilled water
The submersible pump and hose system (equipment) used only to develop and purge
the wells was decontaminated between each well by the following procedure
- The equipment was flushed with tap water,
- The equipment was flushed with a solution of Alconox detergent and tap water; and
' - The equipment was flushed with tap water
'
35 EFFLUENT HANDLING
All effluent generated during assessment activities was sealed in labeled 55-
gallon
drums The drums were stored on-site, pending the results of the analytical testing, at
which time the appropriate disposal method was determined
1
4.0 SUBSURFACE CONDITIONS
The subsurface conditions encountered in the soil borings are presented on the
boring togs-(see -Appendix A) --The -following -is- a generalized summary- of the soil -
stratigraphy encountered
' Project No. 1232 5 ENVIRONMENTAL AUDIT,INC®
