' PHASE VI SUBSURFACE INVESTIGATION Site Code 2163
Montgomery Ward Auto Service Center
5400 Pacific Avenue,Stockton,CA
' 4.0 SUBSURFACE CONDITIONS
' 41 SOIL
The subsurface conditions encountered in the soil borings are shown on the boring logs (see
Appendix A) Based on boring log Information, geologic cross sections were constructed (see
Figures 3, 4, and 5) The following is a generalized summary of the soil stratigraphy
encountered
' The native soils encountered in the borings drilled at the Site are predominantly dark brown silts
and clayey silts to depths ranging from approximately 30 feet bgs in the area south of the auto
' service center building (I c , in the area of wells MW-1 and MW-6) to 40 feet bgs in the area of
the former fueling Islands These silts are moderately moist, dense, and contain trace sand
Interbeds of silty and clayey sands, silts, and clays are then encountered to the termination depth
all borings/wells except MW-3, MW-4, and MW-5 In these three borings, clayey and silty
' sands are present to the termination depth of the borings The clayey sands are greenish gray,
contain fine sand and trace mica, and are saturated and moderately dense
' Ground water was encountered at depths of approximately 50 feet bgs in the on-site wells
5.0 ANALYTICAL TESTING
All samples were delivered for analytical testing to BC Analytical, Inc (BCA), a California state
' certified hazardous waste testing laboratory (Certificate #1353) BCA is certified for all testing
completed as part of this investigation
5 1 SOIL SAMPLES/BLANKS
Soil samples were tested for TPH-G using modified EPA Method 8015 and BTEX using EPA
Method 8020 Selected soil samples (between 44 and 50 5 feet bgs) from the borings were also
' analyzed for purgeable halocarbons (HVOCs) using EPA Method 8010 The trip and equipment
blanks were tested TPH-G, BTEX, and HVOCs using the above test methods The results of the
testing are shown on Table 8 The laboratory reports are contained in Appendix F
52 GROUND WATER SAMPLES
' Table 6 contains the analytical testing results of ground water samples obtained on February 8,
1995 (see EAI, 1995B for specifics)
' Project No 1232 7 ENVIRONMENTAL AUDIT, INC
