Kennedy/Jenks Consultants
Chapter 3: Groundwater Monitoring Well Installation Work
w- Plan
This work plan presents an outline for installation of groundwater monitoring wells at The Wine
Group and was prepared by Kennedy/Jenks in response to Item 2.b of the CAO.
3.1 Introduction
This work plan recommends the installation of permanent groundwater monitoring wells at the
Facility, that will generate data that The Wine Group will use to prepare a Monitoring Well
Installation Report, a Groundwater Characterization Report, a Process Water Characterization
and Process Water Treatment Evaluation Report, and a Report of Waste Discharge, as required
by the CAO and as discussed in Chapter 1 of this Work Plan.
The objective of Chapter 3, the Groundwater Monitoring Well Installation Work Plan (GMW I
Work Plan) is to describe proposed groundwater monitoring well installation and sampling at the
Facility. The objective of the work described in this GWWI Work Plan is to monitor the
groundwater upgradient, beneath, and downgradient of the land application area, and to protect
the beneficial uses of groundwater and satisfy the provisions of WDR No. 95-097 and MRP
Order No. 95-097, dated 28 April 1995.
The topography where the Facility is located is flat and level, and soils are predominantly sandy
foams. Soil permeabilities range from moderately rapid to rapid, with rates of water intake
ranging from 1.5 inches to 3.0 inches per hour. Four exploratory wells drilled to depths of 26 feet
bgs indicate fill soil is underlain by interbedded clayey silt and silty fine sand (Kleinfelder, 1974).
Boring logs from three monitoring wells installed at the Facility indicate the subsurface
stratigraphy below 20 feet bgs consists of sandy clay, sandy silt, fine-grained sand, and clay,
and the groundwater table is located at approximately 35 to 48 feet bgs. A more detailed
description of the site hydrogeology is included in Section 1.4.
3.2 Groundwater Monitoring Locations and Rationale
This section presents the proposed groundwater monitoring locations and discusses the
rationale for selecting these locations. This section also includes a brief summary of the site
hydrology and the locations and construction details of existing monitoring wells.
3.2.1 Site Hydrology
According to groundwater elevation data obtained from existing monitoring wells from 1999 to
2003, the groundwater elevation has ranged from 24.51 feet above MSL to 50.20 feet above
MSL (or 45.56 feet bgs to 21.01 feet bgs). The groundwater flow direction since December 2000
has been to the northwest and the groundwater gradient ranges from approximately 0.001 to
0.005 vertical feet per horizontal foot.
Groundwater Protection Work Plan, The Wine Group Page 3-1
Franzia Winery, Ripon, California
A'usg:v W`atlrtin9'DTDYJ1P0.01_wiregru0;J3eP'-''S§vc52;xn.9"x1e.t rcc
top
