Kennedy/Jenks Consultants
water streams will be coordinated so that samples will also be collected from the sump to
characterize the discharge to the land application areas.
4.3.2.2 Wine Ion Exchange
Three samples will be collected during operation of the wine ion exchange unit.
Either a portable flow meter will be used at the Facility or estimates made so that process water
flow can be periodically monitored for the wine ion exchange stream. During operation of the
wine ion exchange unit, representative flow values will be recorded.
4.3.2.3 Water Softening
Two samples will be collected from the distillery and bottling room water softener process water
regeneration streams (spent regenerant streams). The water softener brine stream quality
should not vary depending on Facility seasonal operation, therefore, only two samples will be
collected from each water softener. If the variability between samples from the two water
softeners is high, a third sample will be taken from each softener.
Either a portable flow meter will be used to monitor flow from the water softener spent
regenerant or it will be estimated. During operation of the water softeners, representative flow
values will be recorded.
4.3.2.4 Bottling Room
Three samples will be collected from the bottling room during cleaning. Flow will be estimated.
4.3.2.5 Boiler Water Blowdown
Three samples will be collected from the boiler water blowdown stream. The boiler water
blowdown quality should not vary depending on Facility seasonal operation, therefore, only
three samples will be collected.
Estimates will be made of the boiler water blowdown flow. During operation of the boiler,
representative flow values will be recorded.
4.3.2.6 Distillation
The distillery operates approximately six weeks out of the year. Due to the infrequent operation
of the distillery, three samples will be collected from the stillage.
Estimates will be made of the stillage process water stream during operation.
4.3.2.7 Non-Contact Cooling Water
The non-contact cooling water is not expected to vary by season however, two samples will be
collected from the cooling tower non-contact cooling water and one sample will be collected
from each evaporative condenser location (three total) for a total of five non-contact cooling
water samples.
Groundwater Protection Work Plan, The Wine Group Page 4-4
Franzia Winery, Ripon, California
