I have also received the supporting documentation, dated 28 May. Recent
soil tests found that onsite soil contained less nitrogen than anticipated, while the demolition work
showed that approximately 80% of the facility had been paved. The groundwater has been sampled
twice, and except for one reading, contained low concentrations of nitrates.
i
Based on the above, Board staff feel that the spills of feed product materials have probably not impacted j
the groundwater. However, a "no further action"letter may not be issued until one more set of '
groundwater samples has been collected and analyzed. As we have discussed, samples are to be collected
and analyzed in February 1998. The method of sampling and constituents analyzed shall be the same as
for the previous groundwater monitoring events. If the February 1998 groundwater samples contain less
than 10 mg/1 nitrate (as nitrogen), then staff will issue a closure letter.
Staffwill not require any additional environmental remediation at this time. We look forward to
receiving a report of the results of the February 1998 groundwater monitoring by 1 March 1998.
If you have any questions, I can be reached at (916) 255-3078.
WEN Y`^'11WYELS
Agricultural Unit
cc: Mr. John Rapp, Sierra Pacific Groundwater Consultants, El Dorado Hills
Mr. Mike Iufurna, San Joaquin County Environmental Health, Stockton
Ms. Charlene Wall, Port of Stockton, Stockton
Mr. Jack Holm, Cargill, Stockton
I
i I17 Our mission is to preserve and enhance the quality of California's Hater resources, and
j Recycled Paper
a ensure their proper allocation and efficient use for the benefit ofpresent and future generations.
I
