Sierra-Pacific Groundwater Consultants,Jnc.a _
Geologists, Engineers, and Compliance Specialists `'
1
.w •k.
March 18, 1997. al
Mr. Jack Holm, Superintendent
Cargill, Inc.
Port Road No. 8
Stockton, California 95203
i
Subject. First-Quarter 1997 Monitoring Report, Cargill Feed Product Facility at Port Road No. 8,
Stockton, California; Sierra-Pacific Project No. 95-128.05
Dear Mr. Holm:
Three wells were measured and sampled on February 4, 1997. The First-Quarter 1997 Monitoring Report is
enclosed for your review. Field observations and test results indicate the following:
i
• Ground water was flowing S 83' E with a gradient of 0.005 on February 4, 1997. Inflow of surface
water from the nearby San Joaquin River apparently drives the flow of near-surface ground water to the
southeast.
• N-NO3 and TKN concentrations detected in ground water samples from the site were relatively low.
Field evidence and chemical data suggest that anaerobic microbial denitrification is taking place beneath
the site, and that feed products present in the subsurface have apparently enhanced the desired microbial
activity.
• Elevated cation concentrations and Specific Conductivity values at the Port of Stockton appear to be
influenced by the intrusion of connate water into the shallow aquifers.
Please call if you have questions or directives.
i
Sincerely,
i
SIERRA-PACIFIC GROUNDWATER CONSULTANTS, INC.
Jo ephen Rapp, CEG-1133
Senior Engineering Geologist
i
JSR/PGD/jb
Enclosure
C.
