Box 9300; MS 48 ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
Minneapolis, MN 55440-9300 PERMIT/SERVICES
MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION; REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Thank you for submitting the Work Plan for Installation of Monitoring Wells at the Cargill Port
Road No. 8 facility within the Port of Stockton. The workplan is approved with the following
comments:
. A minimum of 24-hours must elapse between well installation and well development.
. The wells need to be sampled and surveyed within two weeks of development. A report
concerning the well installation and monitoring will be due six weeks later.
. A minimum of four quarters of monitoring will be required. In addition to collecting water
samples, each monitoring event is to include a determination of the groundwater flow direction
and gradient.
Unless notified otherwise, we expect that Cargill will receive the necessary approvals from the
Port of Stockton by the end of September. The wells should be installed in October, before the
beginning of the rainy season.
The Board's 2 July letter which requested the well installation workplan also requested that
Cargill provide information regarding the planned removal of the top foot of soil at the site.
This information has not yet been provided. Specifically, we need to when the excavation is
scheduled, where and when the soil will be disposed of, when the excavation will be backfilled,
and what material will be used for the backfill. Please provide this information as soon as
possible.
If you have any questions, I can be reached at (916) 255-3104.
W VA
WENDY WYELS
Ag Regulatory Unit
cc: Mr. Jack Holm, Cargill, Stockton
Ms. Charlene Wall, Stockton Port District, Stockton
Mr. John Rapp, Sierra Pacific Groundwater Consultants, El Dorado Hills
,-Mr. Mike Infurna, San Joaquin County Environmental Health, Stockton
