w.. .-s'
Work Plan for Installation of
Monitoring Wells(CW-01,CW-02,and CW-03)
Cargill,Port Road No.8 Facility,Stockton,CA
Sierra-Pacific Project No.95-128.04
(CV-RWQCB). A well drilling permit will be obtained from the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department (County). Planning and project management will result in
completion of the installations in strict compliance with State and San Joaquin County
regulations.
3.2 Drilling and Logging
A truck-mounted, 8-inch, hollow-stem auger will be used to drill the monitoring wells. The soil
borings will be logged and the soils described in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification
System (USCS). One or two brass-tube impact samples will be taken for reference purposes.
Potable tap water will be used to hydrate bentonite, mix Portland cement concrete, and wash
sampling tools. Cuttings from the well boring are expected to be essentially free of nitrogen-
rich feed products. Regardless, drilling tools will be cleaned before being removed from the
site. Auger cuttings will be placed in low areas at the site. Decontamination rinsates will be
placed in a waste water sump and will be staged for disposal.
The City of Stockton has authorized the discharge of non-hazardous well water to the sewer
system, provided that metals and nitrates fall within established parameters. Field experience
has shown that batches of rinsate from cleaning sampling tools at the site typically contain less
than 20 mg//l ammonium (NH4) and traces of nitrate (NO3).
3.3 Well Installations and Development
The monitoring wells will be constructed using flush-threaded sections of 2-inch (diameter)
polyvinyl-chloride (PVC) Schedule 40 casing. Flush-threaded PVC end-caps will be placed at
the bottom of the well casing. PVC well screens, with 0.010-inch wide screen slots, will be
placed from 5.0 to 20.0 feet bgs. The top of the screened interval will be above the highest
observed west-area water level, yet deep enough to allow proper sealing and wellhead
placement.
Sierra-Pacific Groundwater Consultants, Inc. 2
