SAMPLING METHODOLOGY
A Solinst electronic water sounder will be used to measure ground-water elevations. The
manufacturer claims accuracy of measurement of t 5/100-foot (0.05-foot) at a measurement
length of 40 feet. Measurements will be recorded of the interval between the static water
surface and the marked top edge of the well casing.
Temperature, electrical conductivity, and pH measurements will be-made using a Hydac tester
with an external electrode, which has an integrated electronic thermometer with variable
temperature compensation selectivity. All pH measurements will be read to within 0.1 standard
pH units, and have manufacturer specified accuracy of deviation of no greater than :k 0.01
standard pH units at discrete temperatures in the range of 55° to 75° F. Electrical conductivity
measurements will be read to within 10 uohm/cm, and have manufacturer specified accuracy of
deviation of no greater than ± 3% of full scale.
Each of the monitoring wells will be purged prior to sampling with a two-inch submersible
pump until water-quality parameters (pH, conductivity, and temperature) are stabilized in
rr
accordance with EPA protocols. No parameter will vary more than 10 percent from previous
measurements. Each of the wells will be allowed to settle for an hour before taking water
samples. Purged well water will be contained in 55-gallon drums, properly labeled, and staged
for disposal.
V
Ground-water samples will be collected using a submersible pump, and, or disposable
polyethylene bailers. Samples will be bottled, preserved, labeled, and stored on ice in a cooler.
Ground-water samples will be transported under chain of custody to the laboratory and
analyzed within the EPA-specified holding times for the requested analyses.
Prior to subsequent use, the submersible pump, discharge hoses, and other tools will be
thoroughly washed with an Alconoxo or tri-sodium phosphate (TSP) solution to remove soils
and coatings. The submersible pump, hoses, and tools will be carefully rinsed with distilled
.r water to remove any remaining water-soluble contaminants.
Sierra-Pacific Groundwater Consultants, Inc.
