One set of water samples will be placed in 500-m1 polyethylene bottles, unpreserved, and
submitted for nitrate (NO3) analyses using EPA Method 300 (Table 1). A second set of water
samples will be placed in 1000-m1 polyethylene bottles, acidified with H2SO4, and tested for
Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen (TKN) using EPA Method 351.3 and ammonium (NH4) using EPA
.; Method EPA 350.3. A third set of water samples will be placed in 500-m1 polyethylene bottles,
acidified with HNO3i and tested for general metals. A fourth set will be placed in 1000-m1
polyethylene bottles, unpreserved, for general mineral analysis. The ample volume of water
taken from each well allows sufficient sample volume for later replicates if needed.
Impact (brass tube) samples may be taken to determine nitrogen concentrations of discrete soil
horizons. To avoid cross-contamination, protective gloves and sampling tools will be washed
in an Alconox solution and rinsed with distilled water before each new boring. The sampling
process will be repeated for deeper borings. Brass tube samples will be sealed with Teflon tape
and plastic end caps.
Sierra-Pacific Groundwater Consultants, Inc.
