L
Q
Soil Sampling Work Plan
L Cargill,Port Road No.8,
Stockton,California
Sierra-Pacific Project No.95-128.01
description of the sampling procedures that Sierra-Pacific will use in conducting the
investigation.
L Once USA has identified underground utilities in the sampling vicinity, Sierra-Pacific will hire
L a pipe locating contractor to confirm the absence of underground utility lines. Prior to the
initiation of soil boring activities, the Bobcat auger will be cleaned with an Alconox solution and
rinsed with potable tap water.
Surface debris, including sawdust and construction aggregate material, will be cleared away from
the sample site, and the power auger (6-inch-diameter) will be used to advance a boring to an
Linitial depth of three (3) feet below ground surface (bgs).
At 3 feet bgs, the auger will be carefully withdrawn from the hole in order to collect soil
L cuttings from the auger flights. Soil cuttings will be placed in a 5-gallon plastic bucket, blended,
and a representative composite sample transferred into a labeled 250 milliliter glass jar for field
L testing. These cuttings will then be field-tested for nitrates, nitrites, ammonium, conductivity,
and pH. A second representative sample will be collected for laboratory analysis. The samples
will be immediately labeled and placed in an iced cooler.
L
Upon collection of the soil samples from the 0 to 3-foot interval, the boring will continue to be
advanced to a depth of six (6) feet bgs. The auger will be removed at 6 feet bgs to obtain field
testing data. A second composite sample will be obtained using the sampling protocol described
in the above paragraph. The sampling process will be repeated for deeper borings. Borings
deeper than 6 feet bgs will be advanced using a hand-auger with extensions. No soil samples will
be taken within the saturated zone.
An impact sample will be collected at the bottom of each soil boring for confirmation. The
impact sample will be sealed, capped, labeled, and placed on ice with the composite samples.
Sierra-Pacific Groundwater Consultants, Inc. 3
