L
Soil Sampling Work Plan
Cargill,Port Road No.8,
Ei.. Stockton,California
Sierra-Pacific Project No.95-128.01
L
L Selected composite and brass tube impact samples will be sent to a California-Certified
Laboratory, Sequoia Analytical, for TKN and nitrates (NO3) analysis to verify and substantiate
the results of the nitrate test strips and other field tests. Complete sampling procedures and
Lanalytical testing parameters are presented in Appendices A and B, respectively.
To avoid cross-contamination of the samples, protective gloves and sampling tools will be
washed in an Alconox solution and rinsed with potable tap water before each new boring.
Between runs, the auger will be cleaned with various tools and a wire brush according to quality
assurance procedures presented in Appendix C.
Soil generated during augering will initially be placed in a labeled Department of
Transportation (DOT) approved 55-gallon drum. The drummed soil will be characterized and
properly managed. Decontamination water will be collected in a separate labeled DOT
approved 55-gallon drum for characterization and proper disposal.
L
3.3 Task 3 - Analytical Work
Approximately 24 soil samples will be field tested at the site. Twelve soil samples will be sent
to a certified laboratory. Below is a description of the field and confirmation analytical
procedures that will be used at the site.
Field Testing
About 155 ml of soil and 155 ml of distilled water will be mixed in a sealed plastic bag and
allowed to settle out for about five minutes. Soluble nitrates, nitrites, and ammoniacal
compounds will be extracted with the distilled water. A precise and accurate wet chemical
t„ (Hach) test procedure, and nitrate test strips, may be used to measure and cross-check nitrate,
( . nitrite, and ammonium concentrations. Geologic and procedural information regarding each
L sample will be recorded in field notes.
Sierra-Pacific Groundwater Consultants, Inc. 4
