k19 KLEINFELDER
An employee owned company
File No. C20-4535-01.REP
June 14, 2004
Mr. Rick Enos
Delicato Vineyards
12001 South Highway 99
Manteca, California 95376
Via Facsimile 209.824.3554 and U.S. Mail
RE: ADDENDUM LETTER,
GROUNDWATER MONITORING WORKPLAN
DELICATO FAMILY VINEYARDS
MANTECA, CALIFORNIA
Dear Mr. Enos,
This addendum to the original letter prepared for the destruction/abandonment and replacement
of monitoring well MW-2 (Kleinfelder document 20-4535-O1.REP/STO4L311 dated June 3,
2004) is in response to the comments from the State of California Regional Water Quality
Control Board (RWQCB) and their requirement to address those comments by June 20, 2002
prior to commencing any work. The italicized comments made by the RWQCB are as re-stated
below followed by a response.
The well must be surveyed to establish the casing elevation for groundwater measurement
calculations.
As discussed in Kleinfelder's original groundwater monitoring workplan, the tops of the
monitoring wells shall be surveyed so that the depth to groundwater measurements can be
converted to groundwater elevations used to calculate groundwater gradient. The well shall be
surveyed relative to a local benchmark consistent with the previously used benchmark for the
original well and other monitoring wells on site.
The well grout shall be consistent with the Section 13.12.3 of the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department's Well Standards that allows neat cement, cement/bentonite
slurry, or bentonite clay. The use of bentonite clay would not be acceptable in this application
because of the depth of the unsaturated zone and potential for bentonite to dry out and crack.
The well grout shall be consistent with Section 13.12.3 of the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Departments Well Standards using a cement based grout material.
C204535-01.REP/ST04L325 Page I of 2
Copyright 2004,Kleinfelder,Inc.
