Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201
Re: Chevron Station#9-6171. 6633 Pacific Avenue, Stockton, CA
Attached groundwater monitoring report(Sierra, 10/27/94)
Dear Ms. Meays:
Attached you will find a report dated October 27, 1994, which was prepared by Chevron's
consultant, Sierra Environmental Services(Sierra), to describe groundwater monitoring performed
at the subject site on October 4, 1994.
During their October site visit Sierra gauged and sampled all six site-related wells. The measured
direction of groundwater flow was toward the southeast. Groundwater samples from each well
were analyzed for the presence of TPHGas and BTEX constituents. Detectable concentrations of
petroleum hydrocarbons were measured at well MW-2. The measured concentrations were
consistent with those detected during previous site monitoring events.
It should be noted that the laboratory reporting limits for TPHGas, toluene, ethylbenzene, and
xylenes do not conform with the reporting limits specified by the Tri-Regional Board Staff
recommendations. Chevron has requested a revised lab report from GTEL to reflect the lower
reporting limits. The revised report will be submitted under separate cover. It should be further
noted that the TPHGas chromatographic patterns for samples MW-4 and MW-5 were not typical of
the gasoline standard. The atypical patterns were caused by the presence of high concentrations of
non-target compounds. As a result, these samples had to be diluted. The presence of the non-target
compounds obscured the actual concentration of TPHGas at MW-4. During personal
communication with GTEL it was revealed that the non-target compounds could be chlorinated
solvents. This is highly probable since drycleaning solvents have been previously detected at both
well locations.
I would also like to take this opportunity to address your question as to when Chevron would be
replacing underground product piping at the subject site. According to the current capital budget
schedule, the product piping upgrades at the subject site will occur by mid-year, 1996.
If you have any questions or comments, I can be reached at(510) 842-8695.
Sincerely,
