' 08 June 2002 <br /> AGE-NC Protect No 98-0433 <br />' Page 2 of 8 <br />' Soil encountered in the borings was visually classified on a boring log by an AGE geologist in <br /> accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS), the soil boring log is provided in <br /> Appendix A Additionally, soil samples were field-screened for the presence of volatile organic <br />' compounds using an organic vapor meter(OVM) equipped with a photo-ionization detector(PID <br /> Thermo Environmental 580A, 10 0 eV, calibrated to isobutylene), the concentration readings were <br /> recorded on the boring log <br /> 2 1 2 Grab Ground Water Sample Collection <br />' At total depth of the probe boring, a grab ground water sample was collected utilizing a Geoprobe <br /> water sampling assembly fitted with a pre-cleaned one-inch diameter 0 01-inch slotted temporary <br /> well screen The ground water sample was extracted by lowering a Teflon hose equipped with a ball- <br /> valve through the hollow center of the push rods into the screen section <br />' The sample was collected in three EPA-approved 40-m1 VOA vials containing 0 5 ml 18% <br /> hydrochloric acid as a sample preservative and one 1-liter amber bottle without sample preservative <br />� . The collected ground water samples were labeled with the boring designation, date, time, and <br /> sampler's initials and placed in a chilled container under ice <br />' 2 1 3 Laboratory Analysis of Soil and Grab Ground Water Samples <br />' The grab ground water sample and selected soil samples were transported under chain-of-custody <br /> procedures to Cal Tech Environmental Laboratories, a California Department of Health Services <br /> (DHS)-certified laboratory, for analyzed for <br />' • Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline and diesel (TPH-g and TPH-d) in <br /> accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified, and <br />' • Benzene,toluene,ethylbenzene and xylenes(BTEX)and methyl tertiary-butyl ether(MTBE) <br /> in accordance with EPA Method 8021, and <br />' In addition, the ground water sample and soil sample B 17-20 were analyzed for the volatile organic <br /> compounds MTBE, di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE), ternary-amyl <br /> methyl ether (TAME), tertiary butanol (TBA), ethanol and methanol in accordance with EPA <br />' Method 8260B <br /> I <br />' Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc <br />
