' 08 June 2002
AGE-NC Protect No 98-0433
' Soil encountered in the borings was visually classified on a boring log by an AGE geologist in
accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS), the soil boring log is provided in
Appendix A Additionally, soil samples were field-screened for the presence of volatile organic
' compounds using an organic vapor meter(OVM) equipped with a photo-ionization detector(PID
Thermo Environmental 580A, 10 0 eV, calibrated to isobutylene), the concentration readings were
recorded on the boring log
2 1 2 Grab Ground Water Sample Collection
' At total depth of the probe boring, a grab ground water sample was collected utilizing a Geoprobe
water sampling assembly fitted with a pre-cleaned one-inch diameter 0 01-inch slotted temporary
well screen The ground water sample was extracted by lowering a Teflon hose equipped with a ball-
valve through the hollow center of the push rods into the screen section
' The sample was collected in three EPA-approved 40-m1 VOA vials containing 0 5 ml 18%
hydrochloric acid as a sample preservative and one 1-liter amber bottle without sample preservative
. The collected ground water samples were labeled with the boring designation, date, time, and
sampler's initials and placed in a chilled container under ice
' 2 1 3 Laboratory Analysis of Soil and Grab Ground Water Samples
' The grab ground water sample and selected soil samples were transported under chain-of-custody
procedures to Cal Tech Environmental Laboratories, a California Department of Health Services
(DHS)-certified laboratory, for analyzed for
' • Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline and diesel (TPH-g and TPH-d) in
accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified, and
' • Benzene,toluene,ethylbenzene and xylenes(BTEX)and methyl tertiary-butyl ether(MTBE)
in accordance with EPA Method 8021, and
' In addition, the ground water sample and soil sample B 17-20 were analyzed for the volatile organic
compounds MTBE, di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE), ternary-amyl
methyl ether (TAME), tertiary butanol (TBA), ethanol and methanol in accordance with EPA
' Method 8260B
I
' Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc
