05 February 1999
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0433
' Page 2 of 9
Petroleum hydrocarbons in soil were detected in the north end of the former gasoline UST and
' throughout the dispenser locations. Table 1 depicts the analytical results from the UST removal.
2.2. EXCAVATION AND REMOVAL OF HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED SOIL
Between July and September 1998, approximately 1,150 tons of hydrocarbon-impacted soil were
excavated from the former UST area,the former dispenser areas,the former piping areas and the new
UST location. Appendix A includes a summary of the areas excavated and disposition of the soil
' excavated from the former UST and dispenser system excavations; and from the new,UST system
installation. Appendix B includes disposition records for these soils.
3.0. PROCEDURES
Based upon laboratory analysis of soil samples collected during UST removal activities,
investigation will be required to determine the lateral and vertical extent of petroleum hydrocarbon
impacts to soil and ground water. The investigation will include of the following tasks:
• Permitting and pre-field work activities;
' Soil sample collection and analysis;
• Monitoring well installation and development;
'1 Ground water sample collection and analysis; and
• Report preparation.
Each of these tasks is described in greater detail below.
3.1. PERMITTING AND PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES
'
Applicable site assessment permits will be obtained from the PHS-EHD. In addition a health and.
PP
' safety plan will be prepared in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Guidance Manual
for Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
Administration, U:S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 1985). Prior to
mobilization, the proposed boring locations will be clearly marked and an underground utility
clearance obtained through Underground Service Alert(USA).
Advanced GeuEnvironmental,Inc.
