5.4.7. A Draft Final Version 3.0 of the subject document was issued for agency review in
February 2001 and will be finalized before the IRAR. Please cite the newer version of
the Comprehensive Field Work Plan or explain why the older version will continue to be
followed for Operable Unit 1.
4. Table 5-1, page 5-5: The table lists many samples with mercury concentrations of 0.01
ug/L as exceedances of the effluent standard, but the effluent standard for mercury is
0.012 ug/L. Please add another significant figure to the exceedance values to clarify that
they exceed 0.012 ug/L,or delete the posted values that are less than 0.012 ug/L.
5. Section 9.3, page 9-1: The text states that scale has affected the air stripping towers,
extraction systems, and injection wells at DDJC-Sharpe. However, the response in
Appendix B to Marcus Pierce's General Comment 2 on the Draft IRAR states that "Scale
buildup, at least at visible levels, has not been observed at DDJC-Sharpe." We concur
with Mr. Pierce's concern for scale buildup as a factor in limiting the effectiveness of the
injection wells at DDJC-Sharpe and reiterate his request for a discussion of scale removal
in the Final IRAR.
2
