DDRW-Sharpe has applied to DHS and the <br /> U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to renew their <br /> Hazardous Waste Facility Permit. DHS and the EPA are issuing <br /> draft permits for the storage of hazardous waste at Building <br /> 530 and 605. The DHS permit addresses State laws and <br /> regulations and the EPA permit addresses Federal laws and <br /> regulations. <br /> T-pes and Disposition of Waste: The major areas a <br /> DDRW-Sharpe that produce hazardous waste are: <br /> o Building 610 Sandblasting - The sand residues contai <br /> heavy metals such as chrome, lead and zinc. These waste <br /> are containerized and stored in Building 530 . <br /> O Building 205 Solvent Degreaser - Used to clean meta <br /> parts of oil and grease. Waste solvent and sludge are <br /> generated and are stored in Building 605 in containers . <br /> O Transformers are the major source of PCB wastes. All the <br /> transformers are analyzed for PCB content and are stored <br /> in Building 605. <br /> O Building 49 is used for the storage and preparation of <br /> solutions of pesticides , herbicides, and insecticides. <br /> Warfarin, chlordane , and avitrol are some of the wastes <br /> that are generated. These wastes are drummed and stored <br /> in Building 605. <br /> O Building 179 Battery Repair Shop - The electrolyte from <br /> batteries is drained into polyethylene containers and is <br /> then stored in Building 605. <br />
