• •
Mr. Marshall Cloud
July 20, 2006
Page 3
9.) Figure 3-7, EarthVision Geologic Model; The figure shows limited lithologic
formations, monitoring well locations with no identifiers, and obscures the
view of the base boundaries in general. DTSC recommends omitting the
figure from the report since it does not provide any useful information
pertaining to the numerical ground water modeling at DDJC-Sharpe.
10.) Figures 3-8 thru 3-12, Layer Conductivity Zones; The DDJC-Sharpe site
boundary is not identified in the figures and should be inserted to verify that
the conductivity zones are appropriate.
11.) Page 4-7, Table 4-1, Soil Categories and Respective Model Parameters;
Various parameters appear to be identical for the individual layers indicating
the use of literature values rather than site specific measured values. DTSC
recommends using site-specific values rather than literature values whenever
possible to increase the accuracy of the ground water model.
12.)Appendix B, Ground Water Hydrographs; The "rainfall" in the hydrographs
should be revised and be presented as "bars" rather than "lines" to represent
rain as a discontinuous function rather than continuous function as shown.
13.) Page 5-2, section 5.2.2.4; See comment#10.
14.) Page C-1, DDJC-Sharpe Depot Extraction Wells Located in the Model
Domain; The column showing the extraction rate for the various EWs is
shown with a negative sign in front of the extraction volume and should be
revised since a negative volume is not physically possible. If a negative sign
was assigned to show the removal of the ground water, then this should be
noted at the end of page C-4.
If you have any questions or comments regarding this letter, please feel free to contact
me at (916) 255-3713, or e-mail me at pmacnichCaD_dtsc.ca.00v.
Sincere
Peter MacNicholl, P.E.
Remedial Project Manager
Federal Facilities Unit
cc: See DDJC-Sharpe Distribution List.
