' • Respirators will supply air meeting the requirements of the specification for Type 1, <br /> Grade D breathing air, as described in ANSI Standard Z86 1-1973, "Commodity <br /> Specification for Air " Cylinders will be tested and maintained as prescribed in the <br /> "Shipping Container Specification Regulations" of the Department of Transportation <br /> (DOT) in 49 CFR Part 178 <br /> ' • Breathing gas containers will be marked in accordance with ANSI Z48 1-1952, <br /> "Method of Marking Portable Compressed Gas Containers to Identify the Material <br /> ' Contained," Federal Specification BB-A-1034a, June 21, 1968, "Air, Compressed for <br /> Breathing Purposes," or Interim Federal Specification GG-B-0067b, April 27, 1965, <br /> "Breathing Apparatus, Self-Contained " <br /> ' • On-site breathing air compressors are not to be used because contaminated air could <br /> potentially enter the breathing system Respirators using compressed or liquid oxygen <br /> ' are not permitted on-site <br /> • Each respirator user must be trained or retrained within 12 months before using a <br /> respirator The training will address respiratory hazards, the need for respiratory <br /> protection, the function, capabilities, and limitations of respirators, the proper wearing <br /> and use of the respirator, the checkout procedures for the selected respirator, the <br /> ' proper maintenance and sanitizing of the respirator, recognition of respirator failure <br /> situations, and proper procedures for emergencies <br /> r • A qualified OHSC shall be present whenever a respirator is worn <br /> • The OHSC or his or her designee, will inspect all respirators before they are issued <br /> and inspect each respirator at least weekly <br /> ' • Each respirator user will inspect his or her respirator before each use and perform <br /> positive pressure and negative pressure field fit tests before entering potentially <br /> contaminated atmosphere Any malfunction detected during the inspection or fit test <br /> ' shall be immediately reported to PRC's OHSC <br /> • The respirator user will inspect and clean the respirator at the end of each day's use <br /> ' Any defects shall be reported immediately to the PRC OHSC <br /> ' • At least one individual at each work site where respirators are used will be currently <br /> certified by the American Red Cross, or equivalent, in both first aid and <br /> cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) <br /> • The "buddy system" will be strictly enforced whenever respirators are worn <br /> F - 2 <br /> 1 <br />
