16 August 2011
AGE-NC Project No. 11-1957
GRAB GROUND WATER SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
Grab groundwater samples will be collected from selected soil borings utilizing a Geoprobe
Screen Point 15 Ground Water Sampler TM (GWS). At the surface, the GWS will be
threaded into to the leading end of probing rods. Additional rods will be added above the
sampling tool until the desired sampling interval is achieved. Rubber o-rings will be added
between the initial rod and each subsequent rod to ensure that only ground water from the
desired interval enters the GWS.
Once the desired sampling interval is reached, extension rods at the surface will be
lowered through the probing rods to total depth and placed at the top of GWS. Once the
extension rods are in place, the tooling rods used to advance the boring to total depth will
retracted approximately 3.5 feet to expose the GWS. As the tooling rods are retracted the
expendable tip at the end of the GWS will be left in place. The extension rods will then be
removed and a single-use disposable bailer or single use polythene tubing with a sampling
valve will be lowered to total depth to collect discrete ground water samples.
Once samples are collected the bailer or tubing will be properly disposed, all rods used to
advance the GWS will be retracted and the boring will properly abandoned in accordance
with local and/or State regulations.
Each grab ground water sample will be collected into four laboratory supplied 40-ml volatile
organic analysis(VOA)vials without preservative. Following collection, appropriately sealed
and labeled samples will be placed in a chilled container under ice and transported under
chain-of-custody procedure to a CDPH-certified laboratory. Each sample container will be
labeled with the boring designation, time, date and sampler's initials.
EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
Prior to use, all sampling tools used for sample collection will be thoroughly rinsed with
clean water after being washed with a solution of Alconox. All probing rods will be cleaned
prior to advancement at each probe boring location.
BORING ABANDONMENT
The probe borings will be permanently sealed to prevent vertical migration of potential
contaminants. Each soil boring shall be backfilled to surface grade with neat cement and
covered with concrete.
Advanced GeoEn%ironmental,Inc.
