• Safety Practices for Drill Rig Operations <br /> In addition, the following precautions shall be adhered to by the drill rig operator <br /> ' 1 Before raising the drill rig mast in the vicinity of electrical power <br /> lines, the operator shall walk completely around the drill rig <br /> to determine the distance of the rig to the nearest power <br /> line when the mast is being raised (which should be <br /> greater than 20 feet) Any questions regarding the <br /> ' appropriateness of a drilling location should be brought to <br /> the attention of the On-site Safety Coordinator <br /> 2 Before drilling begins, the location must be adequately cleaned <br /> and leveled to accommodate the drill rig <br /> ' 3 Housekeeping Suitable storage for all tools, materials, and <br /> supplies shall be provided Pipe, drill rods, casings, augers <br /> and similar drilling tools shall be stacked in an orderly <br /> manner to prevent rolling, spreading, or sliding <br /> 4 Work areas and drilling platforms shall be kept free of materials, <br /> obstructions, and substances that could cause a surface to <br /> 10 become slick or otherwise hazardous <br /> 5 After stabilizing and leveling the drill rig, all unnecessary personnel <br /> should be cleared from the area immediately to the rear <br /> and the sides of the drill mast before it is raised <br /> ' 6 Augers shall be used consistent with manufacturer's <br /> recommended methods of securing the auger to the power <br /> coupling Additionally, the operator and tool handler shall <br /> establish a safe system of responsibilities for the drilling, <br /> auger connecting and disconnecting, and auger fork <br /> insert/removal <br /> 7 Augers shall only be cleaned when the drill rig is in neutral and the <br /> ' auger has ceased to rotate <br /> 8 Unattended boreholes must be properly covered, or otherwise <br /> protected <br /> • <br /> ' A - 6 <br />
