1
31 1 General Findings from April 2001 through February 2002
' A ground water sample was collected from MW-
1 in January 2002 and depths to the
' water table were measured at selected points surrounding the site Results have been
amended to Appendix D, "LABORATORY RESULTS" The 18t quarter 2002 January
2002 sample indicated a decrease in Purgeable Hydrocarbons from 56 ppb in the 2nd
' quarter of 2001 to below non-detect (50 ppb) levels, while Unidentifiable Extractable
Hydrocarbons dropped to 12 ppm from 2 4 ppm measured in the 2nd quarter of 2001
1
' 32 Brine Consideration
Complete characterization at the site has not yet been achieved The low levels of diesel
t like petroleum hydrocarbons may not pose a major threat Groundwater is suspect due to
the overlapping Victor Fine Foods (Meat Company) contamination up gradient The meat
packing site was identified as a major source of salt brine pollution, resulting in closing
down of the surrounding water wells The brine contamination has not been defined in
this site's investigation It may be either underlying or very close to the WO&S site The
' Meat Company property is within 500 feet up gradient of the Acampo Plant Site The
closest apparent well down gradient is at least 450 FT from the NE corner of the site
' Depending upon the residual contaminant amount and the fact that the ongoing source
(presumed removed USTs) were extracted in October 1987, it is likely in situ remediation
' will be given strong attention
1
' 3-2
1
