Mr Daniel K Barber
D K Barber& Associates
April 30, 2001
BORE INSTALLATION AND SAMPLING PROCEDURES
' On December 4 and 13, 2000 exploratory boreholes and monitoring well MW-1 were
drilled by Fisch Environmental Exploration (Lodi, California), under direct supervision
' of SES's field geologists, Mr Fred Hayden or Mr Henry Pietropaoli The SES geologist
also assisted the project site manager, Mr Dan Barber, P E , in geologic logging of the
' boreholes on which we provided oversight
The locations of the boreholes are shown on the attached figure (base map provided by j
Mr Barber) The boreholes were drilled using a hydraulic-powered, percussive, direct-
push method (similar to GeoProbeTn, which advances an approximately 3 25-inch
outside diameter (OD) hollow steel drive string that is lined with plastic or brass
' sampling sleeves This technique allows for depth-specific soil samples to be collected
for laboratory analysis, and for visual examination of lithology and evidence of
contamination Following removal of the sampling sleeves from the drill rods, the
sleeves selected for laboratory analysis were labeled, capped, chilled, and readied for
' transport to the analytical laboratory
A total of 3 exploratory boreholes were initially advanced on December 4, 2000, in
1 addition to the borehole for well MW-1 The exploratory boreholes were labeled C-1, C-
2, and C-3 A total of 15 soil samples were collected for laboratory analysis from two
boreholes C-1, C-2 and C-3 These samples are designated by borehole number and depth
below grade of the top of the approximately 6-inch long sample sleeve (e g C-3-52' was
collected from borehole C-3 at a depth of 52 to 52 5 feet below grade) A total of three
' "grab" groundwater samples were collected from three boreholes (C-I C-2 and C-3) and
are similarly designated (e g "C-3-W") Soil and water sample locations are recorded on
the borehole geologic logs (Attachment A)
1 D K Barber & Associates advanced four additional boreholes - -
C 4 through C 7 on which
' SES did not participate Mr Barber indicated to SES that soil samples from boreholes C-
4 and C-5 exceeded analytical laboratory holding times Therefore, boreholes C-6 and C-
7 were advanced within several feet of the original C-4 and C-5 boreholes to obtain new
' soil samples for laboratory analysis Attachment A contains the borehole geologic logs
. for C-6 and C-7 that were logged by D K Barber & Associates
Stellar Environmental Solutions
